Overview: This qualification prepares learners to operate effectively as Security Officers, including roles such as Security Guard, Patrol Officer, Access Control Officer, and Asset Protection Officer. The program equips learners with knowledge and practical skills to perform security patrols, control access, respond to emergencies, handle security equipment, and manage legal and reporting processes in security environments.

 Curriculum Information & Structure

 Entry Requirements:  NQF Level 2 with Communication and Mathematical Literacy. 

Curriculum Components:

Knowledge Modules 

Total of 26 credits covering:

• Security industry overview and work environment.
• Access and egress control functions.
• Legal and regulatory requirements.
• Occupational health, safety, and emergency response.
• Effective communication and evidence handling techniques.

Practical Skills Modules

Total of 26 credits including: 

• Inspection, operation, and recording of security equipment.
• Conducting security patrols and inspections.
• Access and egress control.
• Emergency responses and evacuation procedures.
• Firefighting and first aid in the workplace.
• Writing security reports and preserving incident scenes.
• Work Experience Modules

Total of 34 credits focusing on:

• Security equipment maintenance.
• Patrolling processes.
• Access control and emergency response.
• Security reporting and legal processes.
• Incident management and court evidence preparation.

Articulation:  No horizontal articulation with current qualifications.

Vertical articulation to Further Education and Training Certificate:  Specialist, NQF Level 4.

Exemptions:  None recognized; RPL approach recommended.

Assessment & Accreditation 

Assessment Quality Partner: SASSETA & QCTO 

Program Accreditation Requirements:

• Physical facilities and learning resources aligned with module scope.
• Facilitators/Instructors must have NQF Level 3 or Grade B Security Officer qualification with a minimum of 2 years' security environment experience.
• Assessments conducted by qualified subject matter experts.
• Registered as a private security service provider with PSIRA.
• Access to facilities compliant with occupational health and safety standards.
